The National Police have arrested a man on suspicion of the murder of the woman who was found dead with signs of violence in an apartment in the Palma Es Fortí district on Wednesday. He is said to be someone known to the victim but with whom there had not been a relationship for some time.

Officers from the National Police Homicide Squad had issued a warrant for the suspected murder of Esperanza Ferrutxe Frau, 45, who had appeared to have been beaten and strangled in her home in the calle Port de Cariño near to the old Lluís Sitjar football stadium.

The National Police opened various lines of investigation, but everything appeared to point to the victim have been violently beaten to death. Autopsy results confirmed suspicions of repeated blows to the head and strangulation.

The incident has shocked the Palma neighbourhood, while anxiety was being expressed by many residents that the killer of Esperanza was at large.
