A 33-year-old Colombian who slashed the throat of a fellow Colombian on the morning of Christmas Day has been sent to prison, accused of attempted murder.

Appearing before a Palma court, the accused denied the offence, but following questioning by the magistrate, he was placed in custody.

The incident occurred at a club in Palma's Gomila district around seven on Christmas Day morning. The victim, according to witness accounts, came to the defence of his girlfriend who was being pestered by the accused. A fight ensued, during which the victim's throat was slashed with a broken bottle. Doctors say that he is in a serious condition and that they are not optimistic about his survival.
