The first baby to be born in the Balearics this year was delivered at ten past midnight at Inca Hospital. Mohamed Bouvah, whose parents are Moroccan, weighed in at 3,520 grams (seven pounds, twelve ounces). At Son Espases Hospital the first baby of 2016 was born at 7.10am. The boy, Angel Espinosa, weighed eight pounds and 11 ounces (3,950 grams). His mother is Majorcan and his father comes from Huelva.

Minorca’s first baby, a girl named Julia, was delivered at the Mateu Orfila Hospital at five past six in the morning. Daughter of a Minorcan couple, she weighed 2,635 grams (five pounds, 13 ounces). In Ibiza, the first baby arrived at seven minutes to one in the morning. His name is Martí Torres, the smallest of the four early arrivals this year at 2,530 grams (five pounds, nine ounces).
