The National Police homicide squad has opened an investigation into the death of a Norwegian tourist in Can Pastilla.
Police sources, while underlining that no theories are being ruled out at yet, have admitted that the death was under suspicious circumstances.

The body of the middle-aged woman was found by the emergency services at around 11.30am this morning and there were apparently clear signs of violence. By the time the team of forensic scientists reached the scene, the body was in a state of rigor mortis. This suggests that the holidaymaker could have been dead for as long as nine hours before she was discovered in the room of a hotel in calle Bartolome Riutort. She was covered in blood and showing signs that she had been stabbed a number of times.

A number of guests on the same floor of the hotel told the police that they had heard a loud argument between the woman and her Norwegian partner. He was finally located by the police late this afternoon and was subsequently arrested and questioned.

For the moment, the investigators are keeping all lines of investigation open, but one source said that it would appear that, after the argument, the women took her own life.

However, homicide cannot be ruled out until the police have the results of the post-mortem and the autopsy.
