A 43-year-old Spanish woman, María del Carmen A.A., was arrested on Saturday by Palma police, suspected of physical abuse of the four-year-old daughter of her partner.

On Saturday evening, officers from the police's rapid intervention unit went to an address in calle Mondragó in the Son Cladera district of the city. This followed calls by neighbours to the 092 local police emergency line.

Officers asked to see the child, who is also Spanish, and found that she had a cut on the bridge of her nose, inflammation and dried bleeding on the left side of her head and a reddened cheek. The woman was at that time looking after the girl.

An ambulance was called and the girl was taken to Son Espases. The hospital told the police that the child had been subjected to possible mistreatment. Officers then arrested the woman.
