More than a thousand shops will take part in campaign to boost sales ahead of the Christmas festivities. With the theme of buy at a small shop at Christmas, the campaign was launched on Sunday at the Alcudia Fair.

It is an initiative by the Pimeco retailers association and is said to be the most intensive promotion that has been undertaken for the Christmas period. Participating shops will be selling ten euro tickets for prizes including a BMW X4, over 5,000 euros worth of food shopping for a year and a MacBook Air.

The draw, dubbed "La Petigrossa", will be made live on IB3 on 4 January.

The launch at the fair, which featured the trailer with the various prizes that will be doing the rounds in Majorca over the next few weeks, was attended by the trade minister Iago Negueruela. The regional government has been placing a good deal of emphasis on local shopping since the current administration took office. There were also leading members of El Pi, in addition to Alcudia's mayor, a party that is highly supportive of local businesses.
