The National Police have arrested a 57-year-old woman and her 25-year-old son and charged them with failure to safeguard documents and violation of confidentiality.

The police responded to a complaint from the Balearic government regarding an exam for posts as firemen drivers with the Council of Majorca. The examining board had smelt a rat because the applicant, the 25-year-old man, had answered all one hundred questions correctly. These included ones that the board later removed from consideration as it decided that the questions had not been well formulated.

The board therefore disqualified the 25-year-old from the selection process, it having come to the conclusion that he had seen the questions and answers in advance. His mother had access to both the questions and answers and gave them to her son.

The two have been released but will wait a summons to appear in court.
