National Police have arrested a 66-year-old man in Palma who was threatening passers-by with a machete.
On Monday at ten in the evening, a National Police patrol went to the calle Brotad in the district of La Soledad after an emergency call had been received regarding a man with a machete. When the officers arrived, they found him with the weapon concealed under his coat. They tackled him and took the machete off him.
Witnesses said that the man had set fire to mattresses in an industrial unit and had threatened to burn a woman alive if her dog appeared. Police were able to establish that he had been the one responsible for a fire which had been dealt with by a fire crew earlier in the evening.
