Reeling from defeat at Llagostera, Mallorca needed to make amends. The players had had a heart to heart. Things had to improve, and there was an early opportunity to show improvement in the rescheduled match at Huesca.
Wellenreuther, who hadn't covered himself in glory on Sunday, was on the money when preventing a clear chance by Machis on ten minutes. Buoyed by this, Sissoko struck three minutes later and Oriol added a second for Mallorca on 22 minutes, the away side having been under siege through a series of Huesca corners.
Into the second half and Wellenreuther again did well to stop a Moreno effort and then another from Merida around the 60-minute mark as Huesca looked to claw their way back. Mallorca, though, were defending stoutly as Huseca forced corner after corner, and the visitors were not shy in seeking the attention of the referree, Sabater and Wellenreuther going in the book for time-wasting. Finally, Huesca's pressure told, but it wasn't until added time that Sáiz netted.
Some pride restored for Mallorca. The question now is whether they can keep it up. They move up to seventeenth with this win, two places above the drop zone
