With that rainy spell finally on its way off the island, and with summer season properly starting any day now, I went back to one of the healthy eating restaurants in my neighbourhood to check out their new menu. Formerly known as Superfood Gardens, Greeny Taste has changed ownership since I was last there. It continues to be “a unique dining experience”, but “with a fresh twist”.

As I was waiting for the rest of my party to arrive, I had a quick chat with Ylva, the floor manager, to find out what exactly was new. She told me that Greeny Taste still “captivates guests with its unique garden atmosphere, featuring over 5000 live plants that create a truly enchanting ambiance”. Their “commitment to serving healthy, flavourful food was still there”, but the menu has been seasonally adjusted, so there were fewer soups and more salads.

On the technical side, they introduced “in-house 3D printing technology” which allows them to manufacture “aeroponic towers, cultivating the freshest ingredients that take their dishes to a whole new level”. Ylva described their Chef Boyan Minev as “a culinary visionary, renowned for creating inventive flavour combinations that awaken the taste buds”. She commented that he came up with the menu that “celebrates both innovation and tradition, delivering a truly unforgettable dining experience”. Now I was even more eager to try it! As the rest of the group arrived, we were served some refreshing home-made lemonade, made with lemon, ginger and mint. The plan was to taste several different dishes. However, two people loved the sound of Iron Man Burger so much that they ordered the same thing. It was made with 113g vegan patty (seems super precise, but I forgot to ask why that exact weight!?), microgreens, cheddar, tomatoes, steamed onions, fresh cucumber, spiced cucumber, roasted onions, coleslaw and smokey sweet BBQ sauce. Vegan version was also available, swapping cheddar with vegan cheese. The burger was rather large, looked and – I was assured – tasted delicious!

We all slurped some Spicy Lemongrass Soup, made with microgreens, lemongrass, ginger, curry, coconut water, green asparagus, edamame, and sesame oil. First of all, this looked beautiful, but also it tasted both rich and fresh at the same time, with the just right amount of gingery kick to it. I would definitely have this again, especially on a rainy day, should the clouds revisit us any time soon. Having in mind my continuously postponed “operation bikini”, I opted for Rainbow Citrus Salad, which – as the menu promised – would give me a boost of energy and nutrients. It was loaded with vegetables, fruits and nuts, including red cabbage, carrots, apples and pears, and dressed with honey mustard and fresh herbs. On first inspection this looked like glorified coleslaw, but it was so much richer in flavour and texture that I quickly retracted that comparison.

Our final savoury dish was Exotic Vegan Symphony. The name sounded very appetising and the combination of red onions, carrots, sweet potatoes, eggplant, red bell pepper and garlic, served on a bed of black rice and topped with crunchy broccoli, peanuts and micro greens did not disappoint. My stomach was smiling at this warming and soothing medley of textures and flavours. I would probably go as far as proclaiming that this was my favourite dish here, both when it came to the old and the new menu.

We also wanted to try tuna fish cakes, but that somehow got lost in conversation… I would happily return for them and several other items on the menu, including healthy versions of pizzas and wraps.
To finish the night off, we shared a Low Carb Brownie, made without wheat, topped with mango ice-cream, mango sauce and forest fruits. The brownie could have been a lot softer and gooier for my taste. Still, in combination with mango and forest fruits it worked pretty well. Overall this was a fun night, filled with good atmosphere, great food and charming service in a – truly – unique setting. At the end of the meal I felt that I have definitely “pimped up my immune system”. I loved that phrase on their website and I thought it perfectly described what happens at Greeny Taste.
