The chocolate espresso martini.

If you check out their website, you will be greeted with exclamations: “We are open in November! Come and join us!” As the last of the tourists navigate their way back to Palma Airport, a precious few places remain open in Palmanova, so this is definitely something to shout about. The Olive Tree is a large bar, restaurant and a terrace at the Torrenova end of Son Matias beach. Since last week they have been organising an arts and crafts market every Wednesday afternoon and collaborating with Cancer Research Group, whereby proceeds from any drink you buy between 3-6pm go to this wonderful charity. So, you could say I was drinking for a good cause this week.

Looking down the list of a dozen or so cocktails, chocolate espresso martini caught my attention. I don’t think I have ever tried that one and anything “chocolate” is always good in my books. The cocktail came in a tall elegant coupe glass. It was lightly sprinkled with cocoa and adorned with two roasted coffee beans. Made with Havana 7, Chocolate Liqueur, Frangelico Hazelnut Liquor and espresso - it tasted strong and sweet. I loved it! I also noted that they had a decaf version available. There was no need for that this early in the afternoon, but a nice touch.

Scanning the terrace, as I enjoyed my drink, I realized that the olive tree from the name was right in the centre of it. It seems as if the restaurant was built around it aiming to minimally disturb it. According to The Olive Tree´s website, this natural centrepiece is over 350 years old.

Before I finished I wandered over to the market stalls and I got several ideas for birthday (too many Scorpios around me!) and Christmas gifts. Kailani Candles offers some lovely smelling pieces that you can either hang as they come or melt in a candle oil burner. There was also henna painting and more... Till next time – cheers!
