The National Police in Palma are investigating complaints of an alleged fraud in relation to a trip to the Dominican Republic.

Some fifty people in Mallorca are said to have been affected. In all, there are 250 - from Spain, the UK and Italy.

The trip was for the Punta Cana Dance Festival from October 10 to 17. The people in Mallorca are members of a dance academy in Palma. They had made arrangements for the trip with a company based in Madrid. This company offered seven nights in a hotel plus flights and passes for the festival; the price - 1,050 euros. The bookings were made in July.

A few days ago, they received emails informing them that the festival had been cancelled. They have sought to claim their money back but have been told that there aren't the funds and that the company will try to refund it "little by little".

They maintain that the company had not booked hotels or flights. "There was nothing." Given the number of people affected, the alleged fraud amounts to over 250,000 euros.
