If I was an avid Real Mallorca fan I would be seeing red! Where are the flags flying from the town hall? Where are the souvenir Cup final shirts? Why aren’t giant screens being installed at the Son Moix stadium so that fans who can’t travel to Seville can watch tomorrow night’s big match? I must admit that there doesn’t appear to be much Cup final bounce around Palma.

Hopefully today and tomorrow will see a change because the local club is in the final of the King’s Cup and it is quite an achievement (just for those who failed to notice!). I just feel that more could have been done to mark this historic match. I have no doubt that if Real Mallorca win then the triumph will be celebrated across the island in style and quite rightly so, but for now the champagne appears to be very much on ice.

The new American owners of Real Mallorca have performed a minor miracle at the club which has gone from a nightmare to dreaming of Cup glory and playing European football. However, and perhaps it is not them to blame, more should have been done to get fans into the Cup final mood.

Come on Mallorca, wake up; this is a fantastic moment for our local club. If you’ve got a Mallorca scarf, flag or shirt, fly it from your balcony with pride. This is not Real Madrid or Barcelona playing in the final, this is Real Mallorca, our team. So let’s get behind them and cheer them to victory.
