The price comparison and bookings website Atrápalo has launched an app for searching for flights which, it says, will allow travellers flying between September and December to do so for 15% less than they would have done in summer.

A comparison of average prices for flights show that they are highest during July and August, with an average of 316 euros. By contrast, October and December are the cheapest months for buying tickets, with 270 euros per booking.

Atrápalo, reminding users that its mobile app “La Lanzadera” (shuttle) is a tool for making reservations for upcoming “puentes” (bridge weekends), says that 20% of bookings are made using a phone, while it anticipates this rising to 50% within two to three years. This trend reflects an increase in consumer confidence in making purchases via phones, something that is encouraging and positive for the sector.

The use of a smartphone is a way of facilitating greater impulse buys, while still also permitting the use of the web to make more planned travel bookings.
