Some 500 people attended yesterday evening's royal reception at the Almudaina Palace.

King Felipe, Queen Letizia and Sofia, the Queen Mother, started to receive the invited guests at half eight. These guests were from different sectors of civil life - from politicians to those from the worlds of the arts, culture and media.

The number of guests was up by around fifty over last year. A number of politicians, who had been invited, did not attend, having already informed the Royal Household that they would not be going. These included Baltasar Picornell, the president of the Balearic parliament.

The mayor of Palma, Antoni Noguera, was one who did attend, as did President Armengol.
