The number of foreign tourists visiting Spain jumped to 4.4 million in July | Argui Escandon¶Las cadenas anunc


In July, Spain received 4.39 million foreign tourists, 78% more than in July 2020. Total foreign tourist spending was 5,231 million euros; a year ago it was 2,458 million. When compared with 2019, however, there was a 55.5% decrease in the number of tourists - there were 9.87 million in July 2019.

In terms of markets, France was the largest with 874,189 tourists, just under 20% of the total and 46.6% more than in 2020. There were 707,331 German tourists, 64.5% more, and 555,183 British, an increase of 46.5%.

Over the first seven months of the year, there were 9.8 million foreign tourists. For the same period of 2020 there were 13.2 million, while in 2019 there were almost 48 million tourists. Of the 13.2 million last year, the great majority came to Spain before the state of alarm was declared in mid-March. The French, with 2.1 million tourists, constituted the largest market between January and July this year.

At regional level in July, the Balearics led the way. There were 1.3 million foreign tourists, 124% more than in 2020. In July 2019 there were 2.34 million. Catalonia, which usually attracts most foreign tourists, had 814,310, followed by Valencia with 607,214; Andalusia, 554,924; and the Canaries, 414,244.

On tourist spending, the cumulative amount for Spain for the January to July period was 10,996 million euros, 23.2% lower than in 2020 and down 80% compared with 2019.
