A dozen arrests were made on Thursday during a major Guardia Civil operation against drugs trafficking and money laundering in Mallorca.

Raids on addresses in Palma and elsewhere on the island started at first light. The operation was directed by the organised crime and anti-drug squad in the Balearics. Some one hundred officers were involved, including members of the force's elite GRS and USECIC units.

In Palma, there were raids and searches in La Vileta, Son Rapinya and on the C. Manacor. Large amounts of narcotic substances as well as computer equipment were seized.

It is understood that the operation followed a lengthy investigation by specialist officers and is linked to one of the drugs clans in the Son Banya shanty town in Palma.
