Basketball ace who was given a black eye by Michael Jordan becomes Real Mallorca shareholder

Steve Kerr, world-renowned figure in the world of basketball, joins RCD Mallorca filled with enthusiasm: “I’m a friend of Andy Kohlberg and we were talking this summer. He told me about the change in ownership, and offered me the chance to be part of the new investment group. I’m really looking forward to it, I was in Mallorca last summer to watch a match, supporting the team and becoming a fan. It’s a very exciting opportunity”.

Steve Kerr has a rather unique claim to fame, he was given a black eye by NBA legend Michael Jordan. He believes his notorious fight with Michael Jordan actually helped his relationship with the superstar. The two spent more than three years together with the Chicago Bulls, but they got into a scuffle during training camp ahead of the 1995-96 season. At the start of the next season, the two had a battle in practice that began with trash talk and continued to escalate.

As Kerr recalled in 2013, he threw some punches but wound up with a black eye.

Andy Kohlberg is also pleased with the addition of Steve Kerr to the team’s new project: “It’s a huge step forward — when he was here a year ago and spoke to the players, he made a big impact and I loved hearing the message about the importance of being a team and the involvement of each member, on the pitch and on the bench, in order to always be ready. The players loved it and Steve enjoyed it, too”.

Steve Kerr remembers his visit to Mallorca last year fondly, and how he will now be part of the club: “I became a RCD Mallorca member last year, and getting involved in the club now means watching all La Liga matches. I’m quite motivated, not just from a shareholder’s point of view, but because of everything that putting your heart into a club and being part of it entails, and that’s exciting.”
