The Aemet national meteorology agency has issued a yellow alert for rainfall that could be as heavy as 20 millimetres per hour today. The alert has been issued for the north and northeast of the island specifically, as well for Minorca. In addition, alerts are in place for high winds, gusting to 70kph in Ibiza, the south of Majorca and the Tramuntana region. Intervals of force seven are being forecast. Snow in lower-lying areas of the Balearics (down to 800 metres) is also likely today.
