Yesterday's rain, heaviest in northern parts of the island, has heralded an extended period of unsettled weather for Majorca. The Aemet meteorology agency is suggesting that there will be rain at times until at least 16 October with temperatures below normal for the time of year.

The rainfalls yesterday were not as torrential or as widespread as they can be for the autumn. Pollensa was one of the places most affected, with 15.6 litres up to 17.00 yesterday, whereas in neighbouring Sa Pobla there were only four. In the south of the island, there were some intense and short bursts of rain: in Portopi (Palma) there were 2.5 litres in only ten minutes.

Today is expected to be partly cloudy. Over the weekend, heavy cloud is forecast to build up, Aemet observing that this cloud is likely to remain for much of next week. Temperatures are set to fall to highs of 21 or 22C.
