This revised ordinance is still at an early stage of being drafted and it won't only apply to the old part of the city: the whole of the Palma municipal area will be covered.
While Barceló accepts that it is not possible to limit the actual number of tourists, there can be a limit established on the number of tourist places (in accommodation).
"This oversupply doesn't benefit any business in our sector, while it affects the traditional image of the islands."
Arta mayor admits that they do though cause inconvenience. "They need to be minimised as much as possible."
The Council of Majorca is asking the regional tourism ministry to press ahead rapidly with regulation of holiday rentals.
