Fiestas of Sant Joan
The dimonis de Sa Pedrera take part in Muro's Sant Joan fiestas.
Fire nights for the fiestas
The summer fiestas are in full swing. Sant Joan (John the Baptist) will continue beyond the June 24 feast day in some villages, while Sant Pere (San Pedro, Saint Peter) will also go beyond the June 29 feast day in some instances - in Colonia Sant Pere, the fiestas go on for several more days. In Marratxi, there is Sant Marçal (Saint Martial). As there’s so much happening, it’s hard to select highlights, but a couple are in Muro and Puerto Alcudia. Muro’s Dimonis de Sa Pedrera are one of the most creative of the island’s gangs of demons, and for midsummer they stage a Summer Solstice fire-run. The “correfocs” are unquestionably among the most anticipated of all fiesta events. In Puerto Alcudia, there is a return for the flotilla with the image of Sant Pere and also for the fireworks on the beach. There are flotillas elsewhere, and more will follow next month for the Our Lady of Carmel (Virgen del Carmen) fiestas. Programme of fiestas of Sant Joan in Muro On Friday: 11am: Mass, Miquel Tortell Choir, dance of offer, pipers; followed at midday by dance of bigheads. 10pm: Party with Orquestra Galatzó.
